Most necessary natural element of this earth which humans and almost all creatures on earth require is air, which is a composition of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases. The manipulation of this air to suit the human need is HVAC.

At different places we require different scenario of air conditioning, at out home we need a peace full and a moderate atmosphere, for cooking we require hot temperatures, when doing excercise we need loads of fresh air, in a cold storage we need freezing temperatures, etc. HVAC does the job.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) is a very vast field which comes under mechanical engineering.

HVAC areas of Application. 

Most used place of the term HVAC is in the field of building construction since its related to human comfort which is the most challenging for an HVAC engineer. 

Other areas like Power Plants, Cold Storage, Automobiles, Submarines, Aircrafts, Aerospace, etc we the knowledge of HVAC engineering is put to use.

HVAC systems range from a simple stove used for heating to the utmost reliable air-conditioning systems used in space shuttles.

Depending on the complexity of the requirement the HVAC systems needed to be designed keeping in mind many factors than simply trying to maintaing comfortable tempratures.

HVAC is commonly called "air conditioning". So air conditioning is not only limited to controlling the temperature but also the moisture in the air(humidity) , ventilation of the air(fresh air) , filtration of air particles, and modulation of the air particles in the occupied space.

Air conditioning varies in  different place and conditions in hot climate its the cooling of the air and in cold climates its the heating of the air. 

Objective of HVAC Systems

Most often the objective is to provide a comfortable environment for the humans, other that this we have; creating a suitable space for farm animals, hospitals dorms, cold freezing space in cold storage, maintaining the humidity to preserve artifacts, etc.

So we see different requirements need different design considerations and things get more complex.

Following the law of simplicity and vastness of its use for human we can say

HVAC is a provision of a comfortable environment for human satisfaction
